Driver’s actions probed

BELMONT—More information has come to light in the case of an Aug. 7 hit-and-run fatality.

Belmont Police Department Chief David James confirmed Friday that BPD investigators recently served a search warrant to a little-known area watering hole where Charla Dean Davis may have gone before she struck and killed trucker Ronnie Gene Eudy, 40, of Charlotte, with her SUV.

The collision occurred on the Wilkinson Boulevard bridge over the Catawba River that Thursday night.

Tony’s Bar, said James, may be where Davis, 44, of Charlotte, stopped off and possibly—according to police sources—used cocaine and consumed too much beer.

James said the establishment is not half a mile from the bridge.

BPD personnel have also obtained a search warrant for Davis’s vehicle, said James, because they think the SUV’s black box can provide further information about the collision. James declined to say precisely what the BPD has recovered in its searches.

“It’s becoming clear about the facts and the events that led up to the collision,” he said.

The chief confirmed that Davis remains behind bars.
